Instructions for Windows users: =============================== 1) Download all files in this folder to an empty local folder on your PC. 2) Execute md5.exe on all downloaded segments U_R_live_CD_3.iso.001 to U_R_live_CD_3.iso.010 3) Compare computed md5sums with content of file U_R_live_CD_3.md5sums 4) In case of disagreement download faulty image again!! 5) Use HJsplit.exe (Join button) to merge the 10 segments to U_R_live_CD_3.iso 6) Execute md5.exe on U_R_live_CD_3.iso and compare with the 1st sum of file U_R_live_CD_3.md5sums 7) In case all sums are ok, burn CD e.g. with Nero (DAO [Disc At Once] mode). Alternatively you may create with the iso-file a virtual machine (VM) by using the (free) VMware Player (currently V.3.1.0). Unfortunately you may have to enter a valid Win-XP prof activation code (*). The advantage of a VM is a higher execution speed and a network connection via NAT through the host system (I tested it with Windows XP-SP3 and Seven, both professional versions, x86). By using a virtual machine you also get connected to the internet e.g. via wireless network adapters. (*) to circumvent this do for example the following: 1.) Import an existing virtual machine by using the included folder U_R_live_VM In U_R_live_VM.vmx the path to U_R_live_CD_3.iso is set to be D:\ (if a different place, then edit e.g. with notepad) 2.) Use a different VM brand like SUN/ORACLE VM VitualBox. The U_R_live_CD_3 has been newly created with WinXP-SP3 (instead of SP2). Transport and Turtle for Windows have been updated (status May 2010). Also the 'PSI Accelerator Status' has been updated (only for PSI usage). Notes: ====== File and printer sharing inside the workgroup (ATHOME) seems not to work. What to do ? The 3 cygwin programs (Transport, Turtle and MENT) produce a PS-file in their own RAMDisk(B:) directory when printing: B:\transx\TRANS.PS B:\turtlex\hist.ps B:\mentx\MENT.PS You may look at these file with GSView (Desktop icon). Transfer them via USB-2 memory stick to a PC with printer access. For Windows programs you need to define a Default printer. 1) Click at the Icon 'Install Printers' and follow instructions. 2) Select Apple Color LW 12/660 PS as default printer. 3) Select Properties and go to Ports and select b:\ps.prn as port. For all Windows programs the printer output goes now to this PS-file. Look at it with GSView. Rename it in B:\ if you have to collect several outputs. Transfer them via USB-2 memory stick to a PC with printer access. Once transferred you have to print them with GSView (Freeware, requires also Ghostscript) I have observed, that when running the iso-file as a virtual mashine then hot-plugging of USB-2 memory sticks does not work. Try to connect them while booting the VM. Urs Rohrer, June 2010
